Seven Events, Seven Weeks, and a Season That Ends Sooner Than You Think — leans harder on the window 

Fall in Dallas doesn’t arrive on schedule. Late September is still summer here, and some years the first honest cool front holds off until deep into October.

Nobody waits for it. The season opens September 17 in Addison, hits full stride when the State Fair of Texas opens September 25, and runs out in the first days of November — about seven weeks, most of it overlapping.

Here’s the DFW fall bucket list worth putting on the calendar now, with this year’s dates.

What Belongs on a DFW Fall Bucket List?

• Addison Oktoberfest — Addison Circle Park, September 17–20. Addison times its festival to open the same weekend Munich’s traditionally does, and has been running it for more than 35 years. Five stages, polka bands, and dachshund races.
• Autumn at the Arboretum — Dallas Arboretum, September 19 through November 1. This year’s Pumpkin Village theme is Harvest Hues, built from more than 100,000 pumpkins, gourds and squash across 66 acres along White Rock Lake.
• State Fair of Texas — Fair Park, September 25 through October 18. Twenty-four straight days of Big Tex, the auto show, and more than 100 daily attractions.
• McKinney Oktoberfest — Historic Downtown McKinney, September 25–27. Nineteenth year, free to walk in, with the keg tapping Friday at 6 p.m. and a parade right after.
• Hall’s Pumpkin Farm & Corn Maze — Grapevine, October 2 through November 1. A two-acre corn maze, hayrides, closed Mondays and Tuesdays. Bring cash.
• Huddin Homestead Fun Farm — Rockwall, about 25 miles east of downtown Dallas. Pumpkin patch and petting zoo, pay at the gate, no reservations needed. September 2 – November 29.
• Dallas Pumpkin Patch — Lake Highlands. The neighborhood version of the tradition, and the one that fills up with the same families every year. Opens early October.

What This Means for You

The whole DFW fall bucket list fits into about seven weeks, and it doesn’t spread out politely across them.  Two of these overlap almost entirely, three end within days of each other, and several of the season’s biggest events wrap up by November 1.

So if there’s something on this list your family has been meaning to get to for three years running, this is the year to put a real date on it instead of a vague October intention.

What Don’t the Event Listings Tell You?

The Arboretum is calmer on a Tuesday. Hall’s doesn’t take a card. The two Oktoberfests land two weekends apart, so you never have to choose between them.

Deep local roots are mostly an accumulation of small things like these — the same way knowing a neighborhood well has less to do with the listing sheet than with which streets the trick-or-treaters actually walk.

How Far Apart Are These DFW Fall Events? Farther than the map suggests. Fair Park and the Arboretum sit close together in east Dallas, but Grapevine, Rockwall and McKinney each run out in different directions. One per weekend is plenty.
